Seagull Saturday

It was so calm on the river that morning even the seagulls were kicking up a wash.

    Seagul? SEAGUL? Is there no end to creeping Americanisms testing the subtly and symmetry of the Queens English and spelling? What next, a wall on the border to keep the Seagulls out?
