After two years, during which there was the nail biting selection weekend, lots of fund raising activity, preparation and training, we dropped Joseph off at 6.00AM at Southampton airport to join the other members of Hampshire Unit 59 on their way to Seoul, where 40,000 Scouts from around the world are gathering for the World Scout Jamboree.
Unit 59 comprises 36 Scouts and 4 leaders who come from all over Hampshire, so the training camps and activities over the past 2 years have been really good as they get to know each other and operate as a team.
The flight was a relatively quick hop to Schiphol (Amsterdam) where they had a 5 hour wait, anyone who's been there will know it's a massive airport so lots to explore. The flight to Korea was 12 hours, anxious Mum tracking the progress during the night, relieved that it arrived safely and slightly ahead of schedule.
They even made the local news - https://www.hampshirechronicle.co.uk/news/23687937.hampshire-scouts-travel-southampton-korea-world-jamboree/
I'd like to especially thank the leaders who have given huge amounts of time to make this happen, everyone who has contributed to the fund raising either directly of by coming to the events and fairs.
They are currently downtown in Seoul, seeking out an interesting place for dinner.
How is he getting on in Korea? I have seen reports that they are being moved to hotels due to the extreme conditions. Hope he is ok, Barry
